  1. With Dialing preferences, you configure all the dialing combinations you need to call from various locations and connect to any long-distance services. You can also choose how to dial and set other dialing options.

  3. To set Dialing preferences:

  5. 1. Highlight the Preferences command on the Define menu. A submenu appears, listing the available panes of the Preferences window.

  7. 2. Choose Dialing from the Preferences submenu. You see the Dialing pane of the Preferences window.

  9. 3. Choose a dialing method from the Dial via pop-up menu.

  11. 4. If you chose Speaker or Modem, click the Expert Setup button to the right of the pop-up menu to configure additional settings. The Expert Setup Settings dialog box appears. Change the settings, as desired.

  13. If you chose Apple Event Dialer, click the Choose button to the right of the pop-up menu. A standard directory dialog box appears. Locate the application you want to use for dialing and click Open.

  15. NOTE: If you use the Apple Event Dialer to dial your Contacts, you can't dial from the QuickContact pull-down menu or from the QuickContact Find dialog box. Apple Events communicate only between applications, and QuickContact is a control panel.

  17. 5. Select options in the Dialing Defaults section as desired. These options apply every time you use the dialing feature.

  19. 6. In the When dialing field, enter text to precede telephone extensions and specify the number of commas to use rather than text when dialing. This allows you to enter extension numbers after the telephone numbers in your Contacts' Phone fields.

  21. Enter any combination of text or numerals to precede extensions. Be sure what you enter is short enough to fit in your Phone fields. Enter only numerals in the commas field.

  23. NOTE: If you include an extension with a Contact's telephone number, make sure that the number accepts the extension.

  25. 7. Close the Preferences window. You return to the current Contact File.
